Teen Daze returns with a new four-track EP, Fountains Of The World, the latest in his ongoing series of EPs. Drawing influence from acid, Italo and balearic house music, Fountains’ four club-ready tunes capture the optimism of a night into the unknown.
Persona kicks off the nocturnal tone, speeding down the neon-lit freeway amid a distorted 303 line and lush, soft pads. While Teen Daze excels at fusing mellow ambient and sundown club sounds, Persona’s bubbling bassline might make it his first song that could be considered… “acid”???
Next up, Proof moves the EP into a warmer space. Live bass, live piano, live handclaps: this one is pure boogie goodness. A sneaky arpeggiated FM synth carries this mid-tempo groover all the way into its interstellar climax. This one is guaranteed to have you dancing into the stars.
We begin Side B with the title track, Fountains Of The World, which finds Teen Daze experimenting with a more deconstructed club sound. This breakbeat-driven tune is carried by another bubbly 303 line; as our friends at No Bad Days would say, “Floaty, Yet Punchy!”
Finally, we land on the aptly titled Have A Nice Time. The voice of an elder statesman of the dancefloor sets the tone, proclaiming, “A good party is defined by the majority of people having a nice time.” Before you have time to nod your head to this sage wisdom, a mid-tempo, dreamy house track unfolds, with nods to labels like DFC and Strictly Rhythm. Even through the sonic references, this song’s vintage Teen Daze: dreamy, floaty pads roll along and build until you reach a piano climax beamed straight from 1992. Because in the end, Having A Nice Time is all that any of us are trying to do.
Fountains Of The World is available on April 28, 2023 via Teen Daze’s label, Flora. The next EP in the series, The Wind Surfer, is due out this Summer.

I love this entire series by Jamison Isaak. I would highly recommend this album & the previous in the Spring Patterns series if you're looking for good reading music. Doug Hoyer
